Set up the 4fleet Android app for location and alerts

Why 4fleet needs this

The app shares your position with dispatch only while you share it on a job, and it keeps sharing with the screen locked. Android allows that only when the app's location permission is set to all the time. Battery savers can also pause apps in the background, which stops the position updates. Job offers and changes reach you as notifications, so the app needs permission to show them.

Steps

  1. Install the app. Use the install link from your office or the Get it on Google Play button in the driver view, then select Install. You can also open the Google Play Store, search for the app, select it and select Install. On your phone the app is called 4Fleet.
  2. Open the app and sign in with the account your office invited you with.
  3. Open a job assigned to you and select Share my location. Read the message about location data and continue, then allow location when Android asks.
  4. When the app says one more step is needed, open the settings it offers. If it does not open them, touch and hold the 4Fleet app icon on your home screen and tap App info.
  5. Tap Permissions, then Location, and choose Allow all the time. Leave Use precise location on, so dispatch sees where you are and not just the area.
  6. Stop the battery saver from pausing the app. On a Google Pixel, open Settings, tap Apps, then See all apps, tap 4Fleet, then App battery usage, and under Allow background usage pick the option that is not Optimized. On a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings, tap Battery and device care, then Battery, then Background usage limits, open Never sleeping apps, tap the + sign, select 4Fleet and tap Add.
  7. Allow notifications. In the app, open More, then Notifications, and select Enable alerts. Allow notifications if Android asks. If you turned them off earlier, open Settings, tap Notifications, then App notifications, tap 4Fleet and turn its notifications on.

Finish in 4fleet

Open a job and select Share my location again. The button should read Sharing live location after a moment. The line under it about the screen being locked is a standing reminder; you allowed background location in step 5. To check that setting again, select Location settings under the button.

Frequently asked questions

My phone is not a Pixel or a Samsung

The battery setting has a different name on each phone maker's Android. Look in your phone's Settings for the battery or background setting of the 4fleet app and choose the one that lets it run without restrictions. If you cannot find it, ask your office for help.

The app says live tracking is off for this job

Your office has not switched live tracking on, or it is off for this job. Nothing on your phone changes that. Ask your office.

Does the app track me all day?

No. It shares your position only after you select **Share my location** on an assigned job, and it stops when the job ends, when you turn sharing off, or when you sign out.

Is there an iPhone app?

No. The 4fleet driver app is for Android only. On an iPhone, ask your office how they want you to work.
